Good and efficient legal aid should reach the needy persons: Justice Ashwani Kumar Singh
Hon'ble Justice Ashwani Kumar Singh, Judge Patna High Court-cum-Executive Chairman, Bihar State Legal Services Authority was the special guest of the program. The programme was organized under NALSA's "Effective Implementation Plan for Poverty Alleviation, 2015".
Hon'ble Justice inaugurated legal awareness camp organized by various departments of Bihar Government. During the inspection of the camp, the Hon'ble Justice handed over the sanction letter of loan and subsidy to the women and young entrepreneurs. Hon'ble Justice also discussed the schemes being run by Education Department, Social Welfare Department, Health Department, DRDA etc.
District and Sessions Judge, Gaya Shri Manoj Kumar Tiwari threw light on the formation and functions of the Legal Services Authority. District Magistrate, Gaya Dr. Thiagarajan SM. highlighted the government sponsored schemes for poverty alleviation and the role of Jeevika Didis in this regard. Senior Superintendent of Police, Gaya Smt. Harpreet Kaur threw light on the role of police in the empowerment of weaker sections of the society.
She informed that the police is reaching out to the weaker sections through awareness camps and social media to save any person from becoming a victim of crime.
Dhriti Jasleen Sharma, Member Secretary, Balsa drew attention to the steps being taken by the Bihar State Legal Services Authority to spread awareness about the poverty alleviation schemes of the Government. She also appreciated the role of Jeevika Didi in spreading legal awareness among the public.
A play on legal awareness was staged during the programme which was appreciated by all the participants.
At the end of the programme Hon'ble Justice Ashwani Kumar Singh, Judge Patna High Court-cum-Executive Chairman, Bihar State Legal Services Authority shared his old memories with Gaya in his life. He stressed on the need of legal awareness among police, prosecution and judicial officers to strengthen the rule of law. He emphasized on providing good and efficient legal aid to the stakeholders instead of weak legal aid. He appreciated the role of Panel Advocate and Para Legal Volunteer in spreading legal awareness.
