Tourist police launched at Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya
Senior Superintendent of Police Harpreet Kaur formally launched the new tourist police unit near Mahabodhi temple under one police Inspector, 3 sub Inspector, one Hawaldar, 5 male police constable, and 10 female constable have been appointed.
Apart from this, a separate uniform has been prescribed for the tourist police. However the main functions of the tourist police will be crime control, monitoring the active brokers at tourist places, monitoring the shops around the tourist place, showing the correct route from the tourist place to the airport, railway station, bus stand, auto stand and knowledge of local laws to be provided the tourist.
Most of its police officials remain delusional and their main objective will be to recognize the help of tourists. While one four wheeler and two motorcycles have been provided to the tourist police to prevent untoward incidents.
SSP Harpreet Kaur in her inaugural address said: “It is required that the tourism police should be thorough with the history of BodhGaya, most importantly the buddhist connections as Tibetan visitors comprise the maximum number in tourist population. The tourism police is also expected to speak fluently in English so as to be able to converse with foreigners,” said Kaur.
She added that the tourism police could work together with the tourism department and help them in all possible ways.
According to sources, the tourism police will help in guiding tourists about places to visit and their history, help them locate a good hotel or lodge complaints when faced with incidents like missing baggage, robbery, etc.
As far as possible the knowledge of English and foreign languages should be at least 40 years of age, besides 50% women in it, while the Tourist Police Unit was inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Police Harpreet Kaur by cutting the ribbon. After that the women police constables were given information on how to work.
On this occasion, Bodh Gaya Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ajay Prasad Bodh Gaya police station in-charge Rupesh Kumar Sinha, traffic police station in-charge Dharmendra Kumar and other security personnel were present.
